How to Add External Text & Audio to Youtube Video Editor's REMIX Tutorial

SEA FEVER POEM REMIX PROJECT:

Tutorial on How to Add External Text & Audio to Youtube Video Editor's Remix

http://photography-passions.blogspot.com/2015/03/how-to-add-external-text-audio-to.html

STEPS TO CREATE SEA FEVER VIDEO REMIX:
  1. Firstly select and upload your video clips to Youtube.
  2. Enhance the clips individually using ENHANCEMENT TOOL
  3. Edit - click on INFO & SETTINGS, then TAB 2 at the top from the left.)
  4. Then click on STABILIZE (RHS). All the clips needed stabilization as they were taken impromptu and without stabilizing gear.
  5. Note: I stripped all the audios from the clips except #6 because the gulls' wheeling and crying was apt for the poem at 1:06.
  6. The lighting of all the clips bar one, did not need adjustment; they were one of the reasons why the clips were recorded - that special time of the day and of the season (when the shadows are starting to lengthen due to the onset of autumn) and anyway lighting is never the same on any two days so you can get interesting effects anytime depending on atmospheric and other factors.
  7. Only #5 (small gulls) needed brightness and contrast auto-fixing.
  8. #6, large seagulls wheeling overhead above the shoreline - the dull, sombre color in the sky was apt for the subject matter and also the time (morning) referred to in the poem (even though in this case the timing was in the evening and the light was due to a soft yellow sunset from a pale sun sinking behind the already blackened hills). I am not trying to capture or impart bright or vivid  hues or vibes for this poem to reflect the tone of this poem as it winds down its energy at the end.
  9. Download the clips and convert to avi or wmv format to make them compatible if you use Windows Movie Maker (WMM).
  10. Assemble these clips, add text and audio (poem), transistions and preview (VERSION 1)
  11. Sometimes your preview can look great but if you have used free software to download and / or convert your clips to windows format you may find that your resulting productions are much smaller than your normal screen (you can fix by using YT's cropping tool after you upload because YT will offer it to you) or else you may find watermarks or ugly, intrusive bands right across your whole video or both.
  12. Don't despair and don't toss out your wmm project files just yet - tweak until your preview shows your best version then do the following.
  13. Go to YT / VE (Youtube's Video Editor) - INFO & SETTINGS / ENHANCEMENTS / VIDEO EDITOR Link (bottom RHS)
  14. Start a new project, drag and drop all the clips in the order of VERSION 1 (TRIAL VERSION) and then trim the clips until they match the lengths of clips in V1 >> Eg. clips A, B. C might be 13.5, 22.8, 10.7 s long respectively - you can trim your clips very accurately, right up to one decimal place.
  15. Shorten your transitions in your Remix or Draft version to 1.0 s each, then click CREATE VIDEO (top RHS - refer to my previous posts if you need to refresh your memory).
  16. Once published, download and convert it to WMV format and replace all the clips in your TRIAL (V1).
  17. Tweak the text overlaps (especially those closer to the end of your video because 0.1s x number of transitions will mean that your text overlays will be slightly off synch with your video (and even your audio). You can try to trim a little off your clips if you wish to synchronise all elements of your video perfectly.
  18. These last few steps are actually easy and faster if you have trimmed your clips accurately on YT / VE before you created your final DRAFT or YT template.
  19. Preview on your pc and if happy, publish on your pc.
  20. Then upload your FINAL VERSION to YT, publish and share!

  Sea-Fever Video V1: TRIAL VERSION

Action: ASSEMBLE & PUBLISH ON YOUR PC

The only way to publish this TRIAL version without the large, intrusive, ugly, green bands was to preview and record with camtasia. As you can see the pc resources were rather stretched and so the video was replaying jerkily. Also the published result on YT occupied only a small part of the screen. Luckily Youtube has a cropping tool for this too. See YT's guidelines on what's ugly - black sides (pillar boxes) are acceptable (eg. if you take videos portrait-wise with your smartphone) but NOT top and bottom as well - therefore - CROP IT!

MORE REMIXING TIPS:

  • The reason why you have to use your own video editor to add extra text and / or audios is that YT / VE text tool does not allow you to insert alot of text - a couple of short lines is your max.
  • And the YT / VE only allows you to insert text onto each clip rather than across individual clips. You also cannot insert your own audios so that is a major drawback.
  • Note that if you do it this way you can add two layers of audio-effects because the overall audio you insert will not mute the sound of individual clips. Hence mute unwanted sounds and keep desired sounds unmuted in your CLIPS for them to come through as a background to your main audio for special sound effects eg. the sound of wheeling seagulls over the seashore and strong, buffeting, winds to synch with the appropriate passages as these are narrated.
  • Note that the clips are not placed in the order I recorded them - play around until the juxtaposition of the clips look and feel appropriate and congruent to the overall mood and story. This would take into account the audio, which is in fact the Star for this remix (while the other components are merely the supporting cast!). It is important to consider relevance and timing for any inserts re the whole project.
  • So have fun gathering your video clips from your hard drives and devices and play with remixing these. Like the tiny, individual bulbs of festive lighting, small video clips on their own may not look all that inspiring but strung together your VIDEO REMIXES could turn out looking like magical, Fairy Lights that light up the skyline, twinkle some more and beckon to all and sundry near and far!
